A guided mountain adventure designed around preparation, steady progress and responsible altitude awareness.

01 · The Experience
A quieter approach to Africa’s highest mountain
The Rongai Route begins on the northern side of Mount Kilimanjaro, close to the Kenyan border. Its approach offers a distinctive perspective of the mountain, with open terrain, changing vegetation and expansive views as the trail gains elevation.
Over six days, trekkers move from the lower mountain environment towards the high-altitude landscape. Each stage requires patience, appropriate equipment, regular hydration and attention to how the body responds to increasing elevation.
With Girls Adventure Tanzania, your climb is planned around preparation, professional mountain guidance and a shared commitment to safety. Reaching the summit is a goal, but the final decision to continue always depends on conditions and the climber’s wellbeing.

Your Day-by-Day Kilimanjaro Climb
Follow the northern approach to Mount Kilimanjaro through a series of mountain landscapes, overnight camps and a challenging summit attempt. Each day brings a different stage of the journey.
Day One · Arrival on the Trail
Nalemoru Gate to Rongai Camp
After the necessary registration and preparations, begin the trek from the northern side of Kilimanjaro. The trail passes through forest and lower mountain vegetation as you gradually leave the busy areas behind.
Walk at a comfortable, steady pace, take regular water breaks and listen to your mountain guide. On arrival at the designated camp, settle in, enjoy your mountain meal and prepare for the next day’s climb.
Day Two · Higher Ground
Rongai Camp to the Next Mountain Camp
Continue climbing through changing vegetation and increasingly open terrain. As the trail gains height, the surrounding landscape begins to reveal wider views across the northern side of the mountain.
The focus is steady progress rather than speed. Keep your walking rhythm comfortable, eat and drink regularly, and tell your guide promptly if you experience symptoms that concern you. Rest at the confirmed overnight camp.
Day Three · Alpine Scenery
Continue Across the Upper Mountain
Today’s walk continues into higher, more exposed terrain, where vegetation becomes sparser and the mountain scenery takes on a more rugged character. Weather can change quickly, so keep protective layers accessible.
Your guide sets the walking pace and checks how the group is responding to the altitude. Spend the evening resting at the designated camp, eating well and preparing your clothing and equipment for the following stage.
Day Four · Summit Preparation
Move Towards the High Camps
Continue along the confirmed route towards the camp selected for the final stages of the expedition. The landscape becomes increasingly rugged, and cold temperatures may be more noticeable, especially when the sun sets.
Use this stage to organise summit clothing, headlamp, gloves, warm layers and essential personal equipment. Eat a good meal, rest as much as possible and follow the guide’s instructions for the summit schedule.
Day Five · Summit Attempt
Reach for Uhuru Peak and Begin the Descent
The summit attempt usually begins during the night or very early morning, according to the confirmed itinerary and conditions. Follow your guide’s pace across the cold, high- altitude terrain, taking planned breaks when appropriate.
If conditions and your health allow, continue towards Uhuru Peak at 5,895 metres, the highest point in Africa. After the summit attempt, descend according to your guide’s instructions to the designated lower camp.
Reaching the summit is not guaranteed. The guide may change the plan or turn back if altitude symptoms, weather or other safety concerns make continuing inadvisable.
Day Six · Completing the Trek
Descend to the Exit Gate
Continue descending through the lower mountain environment towards the exit gate specified in your itinerary. After the demanding summit stage, take care on uneven ground and allow enough time for the descent.
At the gate, complete the required exit procedures and celebrate the journey with your mountain crew. Your transfer arrangements and any post-climb accommodation should be confirmed with Girls Adventure Tanzania before departure.
Important itinerary note
*Camp names, daily stages and exit arrangements must match the actual six-day Rongai package sold by Girls Adventure Tanzania. A six-day climb is demanding, and the summit schedule can vary with weather, health and operational requirements. Confirm the complete route plan before publishing this itinerary as a final booking programme.

Prepare for Your Six-Day Kilimanjaro Adventure
A rewarding mountain journey starts with thoughtful preparation. Build your endurance, choose suitable equipment, understand altitude safety and prepare to experience Mount Kilimanjaro with confidence.
Before You Travel
Four Essentials for Your Climb
Preparation is about more than packing a bag. Give yourself time to build fitness, check your equipment, plan your meals and understand the support available during the expedition.
Physical Fitness
The Rongai Route includes several consecutive days of walking over uneven terrain and at increasing altitude. Gradual training can help you manage the demands of the trek.
- Walk regularly and gradually increase your distance.
- Practise on hills or stairs where safe and practical.
- Train with your intended footwear and daypack.
- Allow recovery time between training sessions.
Mountain Equipment
Conditions can change from warm lower slopes to cold, exposed terrain near the summit. Layering helps you adjust as temperatures and weather change.
- Bring broken-in trekking boots and comfortable socks.
- Pack warm layers and waterproof outerwear.
- Carry a warm hat, gloves and sun protection.
- Prepare a headlamp and spare batteries for summit night.
Food and Hydration
Walking requires energy, and appetite can change at altitude. Eat regularly, drink appropriately and communicate any dietary needs before your expedition begins.
- Tell the team about allergies and dietary requirements.
- Ask what meals and drinking-water arrangements are included.
- Carry the water containers recommended by your operator.
- Report persistent nausea or difficulty keeping fluids down.
Your Mountain Crew
Guides and support staff help coordinate the climb, explain trail conditions and organise camp logistics according to your package. Good communication is essential throughout the journey.
- Listen carefully to daily briefings and guide instructions.
- Report discomfort or illness promptly.
- Confirm luggage limits and included services in advance.
- Discuss crew tipping customs before the climb.

Altitude and Mountain Safety
Your Wellbeing Comes Before the Summit
Fitness does not prevent altitude illness, and every climber responds differently. Pay attention to how you feel and communicate honestly with your guide throughout the climb.
Maintain a Steady Pace
Follow your guide’s pace, take planned breaks and avoid rushing. Tell your guide if you feel unusually tired or unwell.
Recognise Symptoms
Headache, nausea, dizziness and unusual fatigue can indicate altitude illness. Report symptoms promptly rather than trying to hide them to continue climbing.
Respect Safety Decisions
Serious or worsening symptoms require immediate assessment. Stopping the ascent or descending may be necessary. Reaching the summit must never take priority over your health.

Questions About the Rongai Route in 6 Days
Planning a climb on Mount Kilimanjaro involves more than choosing a route. Here are important questions to consider before booking your six-day Rongai expedition with Girls Adventure Tanzania.

Make an Informed Climbing Decision
Every climber arrives with different experience, fitness and expectations. Discuss your needs with the team, understand the itinerary and prepare for the physical and altitude challenges before committing to the expedition.
1. How difficult is the Rongai Route in 6 days?
The Rongai Route is a challenging high-altitude trek. A six-day itinerary can involve long walking days, cold conditions and a demanding summit attempt. Regular training helps with endurance, but physical fitness does not eliminate altitude-related risks.
2. How high is Mount Kilimanjaro?
Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro, stands at 5,895 metres above sea level. The altitude makes gradual pacing, symptom monitoring and following the guide’s safety instructions especially important.
3. Is the Rongai Route suitable for beginners?
People who are new to high-altitude trekking may consider Kilimanjaro, but they should understand the physical demands and prepare appropriately. Discuss your fitness, previous trekking experience and any health concerns with a qualified professional and your trekking operator before booking.
4. What should I pack for the six-day climb?
Essential items generally include suitable hiking boots, layered clothing, warm insulation, waterproof outerwear, gloves, a hat, a headlamp, sun protection and a daypack. Ask Girls Adventure Tanzania for the complete packing list and confirmation of which equipment is supplied.
5. What kind of accommodation is used on the mountain?
Rongai expeditions commonly use mountain camps. Confirm the exact overnight camps, tent arrangements, sleeping equipment and included services in the specific six-day package before making a booking.
6. What food and drinking water are provided?
Meal menus and water arrangements depend on the operator’s package. Before departure, confirm which meals are included, how drinking water is made safe and how dietary requirements or allergies can be accommodated.
7. Can I reach Uhuru Peak in six days?
The six-day itinerary is designed to include a summit attempt, but reaching Uhuru Peak cannot be guaranteed. Weather, altitude symptoms, health and trail conditions can affect whether it is safe to continue. Your guide may recommend turning back when necessary.
8. What happens if I develop altitude sickness?
Tell your guide immediately if you develop a headache, nausea, dizziness or other concerning symptoms. Worsening symptoms require prompt assessment, and descent may be necessary. Severe symptoms are an emergency; do not continue ascending while unwell or rely on medication alone.
9. What is included in the Rongai Route package?
Inclusions vary by package. Request written confirmation of park fees, permits, guides, support crew, meals, camping equipment, transfers, accommodation before or after the climb and any exclusions or optional costs.
10. How do I book the Rongai Route with Girls Adventure Tanzania?
Contact Girls Adventure Tanzania through the Get a Free Quote page. Share your preferred travel dates, group size and questions about the six-day itinerary. Confirm availability, inclusions and payment terms before paying a deposit.
